This concert is a strong sign of the cultural unity of Israel and Austria and has a deep symbolism: this year we commemorate in a special way the Anschluss of Austria to the Third Reich, at the same time celebrate 100 years since the founding of Austria and 70 years since the founding of the state Israel.
It is also Maestro Mehta's personal wish in his last season as artistic director of the IPO to bring his orchestra to his second home in Vienna. Especially in the commemorative year 2018, this concert should be understood as a message of music as the universal language of a peaceful and respectful togetherness.
