Book Presentation: Vladimir Vertlib „Viktor hilft“

In Vladimir Vertlib’s insightfully narrated novel with autobiographical features, a refugee helper is confronted with the past: Viktor came to Austria years ago, fleeing anti-Semitism in Russia. Now he is trying to help in a transit camp in Salzburg at the height of the refugee wave. His memories of the time when he himself was an alien constantly return. Added to this is the message from a former girlfriend: her daughter, who by the way is his, has disappeared. According to inquiries, she is in Germany and involved in the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) – Viktor goes in search of her. In this partly autobiographical novel of big words and small gestures, Vladimir Vertlib tells with great sensitivity of hatred and love and – perhaps – reconciliation.
