90 years old and not a bit quieter. Even at the risk of “being crucified, ending up at the stake or being excluded from the Jewish Community,” Arik Brauer was never in his life at a loss of a bold word when it came to questioning accepted truths, exposing small human weaknesses or calling injustices in politics and society by name. And what would be better suited than the joke in the tradition of great Jewish humorists?
For his new book, Arik Brauer boils well-known and his own Jewish jokes down to an essence in a congenially rhyming manner and masterfully illustrates them. These are complemented by a wealth of satirical drawings on a variety of issues, as well as numerous Brauerian “Chochmes” (wisdoms) and “Lozelach” (humorous stories).
