Job Announcement – Chief Rabbi of the Jewish Community of Vienna
The Jewish Community of Vienna (Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Wien) is one of the most historic unified Jewish communities in Europe. We are seeking, at the earliest possible date, a Chief Rabbi for Vienna, who will also serve as Rabbi of the Stadttempel (Vienna City Synagogue).
Qualifications
• A modern personality with an open and approachable attitude toward community members
• Orthodox Smicha recognized by the Chief Rabbinate of the State of Israel
• Professional experience as a rabbi and as a religious leader of a community with strong organizational abilities
• Excellent command of the German language
• Academic education, preferably in pedagogy or education
• Integrative personality with openness, tolerance, and respect toward all members of the community regardless of their religious orientation
Responsibilities
• Leadership of the Rabbinate and serving as the halachic authority in matters concerning the IKG and its institutions
• Maintaining contact with the rabbis of the community and close cooperation with the Bet Din
• Responsibility for conducting daily prayers and holiday services at the Stadttempel according to Viennese tradition
• Pastoral care for community members
• Initiatives to strengthen the involvement of younger members and families
• Delivering regular shiurim, lectures, and teaching Jewish knowledge
• Building connections with European rabbis and institutions as well as with the Chief Rabbinate in Israel
• Dialogue with the legally recognized religious communities in Austria
• Public representation duties
