Food and Shelter

Every Jew in our care deserves to have a place they can call home in the heart of our community. More than half of all refugees are children, more than two thirds of the adults receiving community support are women. They need a home.

A home without worries

Like in many other major cities, prices for housing are skyrocketing. Additionally, a typical Viennese apartment uses gas for warm water and heating, which makes tenants such as refugees especially vulnerable to soaring utility prices. With your help we can make sure that every Jewish refugee from Ukraine has a roof over their head and does not need to worry whether to heat the apartment in cold winter days.

In order to rent all these apartments, the Jewish Community of Vienna negotiated with major real estate firms in the city and bridges the substantial gap between rent and government subsidies. This strategy increases the impact of each donation for the Jewish refugees we seek to help.

To make a house a home

In addition to providing apartments, the Jewish Community provides everything from furniture to bed sheets and appliances. All these things are made possible through donations that improve the living conditions of refugees in Vienna and help build a solid foundation for their next steps in life.

Kosher food and Passover-dinner

The Jewish Community provides kosher dinners for refugees. In the emergency phase, these dinners served as occasions for refugees to meet and to get familiar with the services the Jewish Community provides. Throughout the process, the community has helped with organizing and financing these dinners, especially for Passover and Shavuot. Additionally, the community provided vouchers for individuals to buy food for themselves.
