Chief Rabbi Jaron Engelmayer

After Jaron Engelmayer completed a guest semester at the Yeshiva University in New York, he studied at the Yeshivat Hesder "Birkat Moshe" in Ma'ale Adumim from 1996-2005, under Rav Nachum Eliezer Rabinovitch זצ״ל. As part of his yeshiva studies, Jaron Engelmayer not only completed the Israeli military service, but also teacher training at the "College Machon Lifshitz" in Jerusalem, from where he successfully graduated with a Bachelor degree in 2005.

After passing the exams in selected areas of the Shulchan Aruch, he received his first rabbinate ordination from the Israeli Chief Rabbinate in 2002 and was qualified as a municipal rabbi in 2005. From 2005 to 2014 he was active as a rabbi in Germany, including three years in Aachen and six years in Cologne. From 2008 to 2014 he was a member of the board and advisory board of the Orthodox Rabbinical Conference Germany (ORD). From 2015 to 2020 he was rabbi in Karmiel, in the north of Israel.

Rabbi Engelmayer has been the Chief Rabbi of the IKG Vienna since September 2020, and is thus the rabbi in charge of the Vienna City Temple (since 1946 the main synagogue of the Jewish Community Vienna). Additionally he is the head of the rabbinate of the IKG Vienna and the halachic authority of the institutions of the IKG Vienna, and as such the rabbi responsible for all halachic questions in the Maimonides Centre (except kashrut), the rabbi of the ZPC School, and rabbinically and halachically responsible for the Jewish section (Gate IV) at the Vienna Central Cemetery.
