2500 Baden, Halsriegelstraße 4
At 12,849 m², this is the largest Jewish cemetery in Lower Austria. Approximately 2,200 people have been buried here from 1873 to the present day—mainly members of the Jewish community of Baden, but also guests from all parts of the Austro-Hungarian Empire who died during a spa stay in Baden. Around 1,400 gravestones are preserved. In terms of the number of burials, it is the largest Jewish cemetery in Austria outside of Vienna and is under historical preservation protection.
From 2017 to 2021, the cemetery was restored with the help of funding from the Fund for the Restoration of Jewish Cemeteries in Austria and the state of Lower Austria.
On June 21, 2022, the cemetery was officially handed over to the city of Baden for continued maintenance.
The cemetery is locked.
For interested visitors, the key is available at the Citizens' Service of the City of Baden.
