The Beginnings
The Jewish New Year’s Concert took its first steps in 2022/5783, immediately following the COVID-19 pandemic. With a concert in a special venue as the Wiener Konzerthaus or dasMuth the Jewish Community of Vienna welcomes the Jewish New Year with a broad repertoire of Jewish music and with the confidence of once again being able to experience life in all its diversity. Inspired by the New Year’s Concert at the Musikverein the Jewish New Year’s Concert is establishing itself as a permanent fixture in Vienna’s cultural calendar.
Everyone is warmly invited to celebrate life and diversity together with the Jewish community! Solidarity and freedom are at the heart of this evening along with an outstanding musical experience.
Rosh Hashanah
Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year. According to oral tradition, it marks the day on which the creation of the world was completed; the words translate as “Head of the Year.” Depending on the year it takes place in September or October.
In recent years we have invited for example violinist Ariella Zeitlin, opera singer Hila Fahima or the Israeli Philharmonic.
