Never forget ! For a Europe of human rights

Commemorative event on January 27, 2019 at 11.00 am on Heldenplatz

On January 27, the Red Army liberates the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp for the 74th time. Representing all places of Nazi extermination, the date of the Auschwitz Liberation was proclaimed by the United Nations as International Day of Remembrance to the Victims of the Holocaust.
Timewitnesses have tirelessly told us in the past decades that incredible misery, indescribable suffering and monstrous crimes have led to radical nationalism and racist delusion in Europe. But today we see in Europe again nationalist and racist movements that are in the process of rebuilding or already equipped with political power.
We must understand the knowledge of history as a unique opportunity to do better and not allow a relapse into dark and criminal times!
We must take responsibility for our future and act in the spirit of remembering the people who were persecuted and murdered by National Socialists and fellow travelers!
Together we set a signal for keeping the memory alive and for a Europe of human rights and peaceful coexistence!
