Vitaly Komar was born in Moscow (USSR). He graduated from The Stroganov Art Academy in 1967. He was one of the founders of Sots-Art: Russian art movement of conceptual pop-artists, based on Soviet visual propaganda and Socialist Realist art. He had collaborated on many projects with Alex Melamid. In 1974 his works, among works of other underground artists, had been destroyed by the  Soviet autorities at the officially unsanctioned "Bulldouzer exhibition".










Since 1978 he has lived and worked in New York.

He participated in many international exhibitions, such as Venice Bienalle (1997;1999); Documenta 8 in Kassel (1987); Tate Modern in London: The World Goes Pop (2015) and Performing for the Camera (2016); Pompidou Center in Paris Collectia (2017). His works in collection of Metropolitan Museum (New York); Tretiakov Gallery (Moscov); MOMA (New York); Ludwig Museum of Modern Art (Cologne); Gemente Museum (The Hague); Guggenheim Museum (New York), Tate Modern (London); Pompidou Center (Paris);
